Minister as a chaplain to patients, families, and staff at Chogoria Hospital, a 300-bed hospital that serves 450 outpatients a day and has a staff of over 340. As a chaplain, you will help provide for the spiritual needs of all who enter the hospital’s doors. Currently, there is only one pastor, who is untrained as a chaplain; one evangelist; and two counselors serving the community.

Ministry Description

In 1922, Scottish missionaries founded a medical outpost in the central highlands of Kenya, just east of Mount Kenya. During the next 80 years, the outpost grew into two boarding schools and Chogoria Hospital, a reputable 300-bed facility. Each of the ministries was effective in spreading the gospel of Christ throughout the area. In 2004, Chogoria Hospital came under Kenyan management. While the hospital has continued to grow and provide effective medical care, the number of fully-trained, missions-minded doctors is small. Currently, only one full-time, residency-trained doctor works at Chogoria.

Quick Facts

  • WGM missionaries working with Chogoria Hospital help train African doctors. A Family Medicine Residency program was added in 2016, which functions in partnership with Kabarak University and Tenwek Hospital to train East African medical professionals for medical missions service throughout the continent.
  • In addition to outpatient and inpatient services, Chogoria offers general surgery, orthopaedics, maternity services, HIV/AIDS care, dental and eye clinics, palliative care, a children’s trauma and burn unit, and a pharmacy.
  • Chogoria is located near the edge of Mount Kenya National Park. Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Mount Kilimanjaro.
