Mike Chupp, MD

Executive Vice President, Christian Medical & Dental Associations

I was born in Frankfort, Indiana and grew up in the south suburbs of Indianapolis, IN.  I graduated Summa Cum Lauda with premedical degree in chemistry at Taylor University in 84 and then graduated as an AOA scholar with an MD degree at Indiana University in 1988. I completed a five year general surgery residency at Methodist Hospital in 1993;   Long term member of Surgical Department of Southwestern Medical Clinic (large Christian multi-specialty group) and Lakeland Regional Health System in St. Joseph,  MI 1993 – 2016.   Married to Pam for 26 years with four children Steven (24);  Melody (22); Kayla (18), and Ashley (16).  Completed 20 years of service in August 2016 as a career missionary with World Gospel Mission, serving at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Kenya. I am currently working on an on-line MBA with Crown College with hoped for completion in winter 2019-20.

I would testify that I am an example of how life, ministry, and career don’t always turn out exactly the way you expected.  During my years of ministry at Tenwek Hospital, my surgical emphasis wasn’t on general surgery but primarily on orthopedic trauma surgery. My work at the hospital also wasn’t what I had planned or expected over the last four to five years at Tenwek (80 – 90% of my time was devoted to administration, development, and leadership for the hospital and WGM Kenya mission leadership).  BUT God's gifting and preparation and character development in our lives was not wasted.  In 2015, Dr. David Stevens and Dr. Gene Rudd asked me to consider joining the executive leadership team at CMDA USA.  Dr. Stevens was the Medical Director at Tenwek when I volunteered there as a medical student in 1988.   He had a big influence on me as I  chose a career as a missionary surgeon at Tenwek Hospital beginning in 1996.  I have followed with amazement his journey of leadership, first with World Medical Mission and then at CMDA as its CEO for many years.  It is a great honor and exciting privilege to join the organization that has had the longest and deepest impact on my professional life as a Christian physician.  Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:6,7 to “fan into flame the gift of God which is in you”.  We believe that God has asked us to join the CMDA team at this time of leadership transition to fan into flame God’s call and the Spirit’s gifts to doctors and dentists and other health care professionals who “set apart Christ as Lord” (1 Pet 3:15)….until He comes back.
