Healthcare Education as a Domestic Mission Field

This workshop will present opportunities and experiences using healthcare education as a domestic mission field to not only reach patients, but also to reach students and colleagues for the Lord. Each speaker has personal experience in their area of service.

Training Primary Care Physicians in a Community Hospital Program and in a Church Healthcare Clinic – Steve Baker, MD
Dr. Baker started a healthcare clinic at his church while also serving as a faculty member in a community hospital family medicine training program. Working with students and residents in both settings he has had opportunities to also provide mission experiences for them in Indonesia. He will share his experience in both settings.

Using Healthcare Education in a University Medical School Setting – Sega Cissoko, MD
Dr. Cissoko is on the faculty of a medical school, but prior to this was a full-time missionary in West Africa for 20 years. He will discuss opportunities to work with medical students and colleagues in an academic center.

Using Dental Education as an Outreach to Dental Students, Residents and Patients – Roger Joe, DMD
Dr. Joe will discuss the importance of using dental education and opportunities to mentor and train dental students, dental hygienists and assistants, as well as doing short-term dental missions.

Objectives
— Discuss the importance of leadership and mentoring when working with healthcare students and postgraduate trainees.
—Utilize a domestic healthcare setting in private practice or academic setting to care for the underserved in a caring way.
